If you are a pro (or still on your way - which is ok!) you've probably heard great reviews - we have hundred of reviews on our website with 5 star ratings * * * * * but here's a handy snap shot.
All Custom Tan solution is made using the highest grade DHA which means in terms of tanability, you can't get any better. But - because we are all different, and our clients have different needs, we have three different types of solution to cater for everyone and our celebworthy must-have primer for underneath.
Custom Tan's 2 Hour Tan was the first solution we made. It is a violet base. The violet base achieves a rich Mediterranean tan and available in regular 10% and dark 12.5% and ultra-dark 15% DHA.
Our regular tan is the perfect colour for brides, anyone with a fair complexion or people wanting a natural tan. The 2 hour dark and ultra-dark is our head office favourite.
The 2 hour regular, is the same tan that we use in our self tanning and instant bronzer mousse - which has 3 times been voted Australia's Best Fake Tan. The 2 hour ultra-dark is the same tan we use in our Ultra Dark self tan and instant bronzer mousse.
The Moroccan tan we manufacture is a green base tan and is absolutely alcohol free. The regular Moroccan is a 12% and dark is 15% DHA. This is a one hour tan, however the tan can be left on longer for darker results. The addition of argan oil in this tan has so many skin beneficial properties. Your skin will drink this tan, its a little bit luxe.
Fit Tan is our new baby with phenomenal results. Tan and tone your body with Fit Tan which is perfect for body builders, athletes and spray tan clients who want a great tan, with the added benefit of toning properties. Fit Tan is a chocolate base, and comes in 3 different percentages 10%, 12% and 15% DHA. The toning comes from our patented Quad Toning QTT which includes caffeine, a well known ingredient in skin tightening.
A Ph spray is a fantastic way to prep the skin before applying sunless tan. It's a vegan, completely clear product that sprays just like solution would. You apply approximately 25ml over your clients body to ensure the ph levels of your client's skin is balanced before you immediately apply the bronzing solution over the top. Think of this little baby as a primer for your skin.
It works the same way as a primer does under your foundation. Once you've tried it, you can tell the difference in results. A bottle will last you roughly 40 tans, and it's a great product to offer as an upsell to clients, or as a reward or special occasion (weddings, formals) complimentary offering.
Important to note:
We don't pretend to know your target market better than you but can make the following suggestions. 1) ask around, see what people are after. We find there are geographical pockets where people prefer to have a tan with argan oil in it, then areas that love violet base tans. It's up to you. Do you research and see if you want to do the same, or stand out from your competition.
We do recommend that you DO NOT have a one tan fits all attitude. Yes, one of the reasons we called Custom Tan, Custom Tan is because clients have the ability to customise the results by deciding on how long they wish to leave their tan on, but we definitely recommend you have at least 2 different types of solution to suit your customers. A regular and a dark tan is a great starting point either choose one of our lines for both colour options, or choose across the lines.
Besides using the highest grade tanning ingredients, you can be assured that EVERY Custom Tan product, retail and professional are all made in Australia and unlike competitor products, are not sea freighted in from overseas, and months old by the time they get to you, they are days if not just weeks old.
However, some people may have sensitivities so we always recommend a patch test, and if you have any known allergies always consult your doctor. There is sadly a very small percentage of the population who sunless tanning doesn’t work for.
Please be aware that we are very environmental and animal conscious. Our founder has been a vegetarian for over 20 years and we NEVER test on animals. All our products are proudly vegan friendly.
Knowing what you are doing
You may be completely new to tanning, or you may be familiar with using a different brand and or equipment. It takes time to get the results right and to know how much solution you require to do your tans. But here’s some super valuable information to kick you off.
- How tanning actually works. The process of going brown is called the Maillard Reaction. We explain it to our clients like having an apple, cutting it and leaving it on the bench. The longer you leave it – the darker it goes. Same thing happens with tan on the skin. What enables us as a brand to say it’s a 2 hour tan etc, is that around 40% of that browning process happens in the first two hours. This means, you can rinse after 1-2 hours for a lighter shade but the colour will continue to develop up to 10-12 hours later. So it may look like you’re washing the bronzer off – which you are, but you’re not washing the tan off, that’s a chemical reaction that takes time. Super important to know that clients don’t have a soapy wash, or wash their hair at this first shower, it’s a rinse to get the bronzer off. As colour is subjective, they may decide 2 hours is enough for them, or others may find 6 hours works better. It’s a trial and error. Be incredibly careful though about leaving a high percentage DHA on a light coloured skin tone for too long. You don’t want to over-compromise the colour.
-
Don’t use too much! We’ve just explained HOW tanning works, so now that you know it’s a chemical reaction between the skin and the tanning ingredient, you don’t want to over apply it. Aim to use 50ml for a spray tan. One really thorough coat, and a light second coat to make sure your client is well covered. Use a sharpie on your solution pot if your machine doesn’t have markers, and mark out every 50ml. You need to know how much you are using. Using 20ml is not enough, using 100ml you are using way more than you need to, the client will probably be wet, and you’re wasting your profit.
- Growing your business and establishing your brand. You work hard to gain clients, it’s critical you service them well and look after them. Get them to fill in a client disclaimer form, establish a public social media account on Instagram and facebook and regularly post. We provide social media packages for salons who want us to manage this for them, or you can nab the free module in our online Spray Tan E-Course which is slashed right now to a ridiculous price online.
