How to make your tan last!
Posted on June 01 2025

Ever wondered how to get the most out of your tan?
With the right aftercare, your tan can last beautifully for up to 10 days. Here are our top 5 tips for a longer lasting glow:
Start with the Perfect Prep!
- Make sure you exfoliate your body 24 hours beforehand to remove any dead skin. This helps the tan go on evenly and prevents patchiness as it fades.
- Shave or wax at least 24 hours before your tan. This gives your pores time to close and avoids that “dotty” look.
- Skip body lotion, perfume, deodorant, or anything oily on your skin — these create a barrier that stops the tan from developing properly.
Avoid exercising (for 24hrs)
Give your tan a chance to settle before breaking a sweat. Exercise, tight clothes, or anything that causes friction can mess with your results in the first day.
Stay Moisturised (but Choose Wisely!)
- Hydration is everything. Use a tan-friendly, oil-free moisturiser every day — especially after showering. Dry skin flakes faster, which means your tan will fade quicker. Focus on drier areas like hands, feet, elbows, and knees.
- Try and avoid heavy ones as they can break down your tan and cause patchiness.
Keep Your Showers Short & Sweet
Long, hot showers might feel amazing, but they’re not your tan’s best friend. Sadly long, hot showers and steamy baths can strip your tan. Keep it quick, use cool to lukewarm water, and avoid harsh soaps or body washes
Hands Off!
Once you’re tanned, try not to rub, scratch, or exfoliate your skin too soon. Pat yourself dry after showers instead of rubbing with a towel. The gentler you are, the longer your tan will stay flawless!
Bonus Tip:
Once your tan starts to fade, if your tan starts to fade unevenly, use a gentle exfoliator every couple of days to keep things smooth — then top up with a gradual tan if you like! Our vote is our Custom Tan gradual tan!
